Fireworks For Sale in Eccleston

Behind the five makers who fill most of the shelf there are twelve more, and not one of them runs to ten pieces. This page is about the short lists, and why a house with four items on it can still be the right answer.

Twelve makers, a few pieces each

Cube Fireworks, Primed Pyro, Heritage Fireworks, Black Cat Fireworks and Cosmic Fireworks each run to between seven and nine pieces. Gemstone Fireworks, FAB Fireworks, Skyhigh Fireworks and Celtic Fireworks are smaller again. Kimbolton Fireworks has three. Hallmark and Standard Fireworks have one apiece.

Added together the twelve come to close to a third of the range, which is a good deal more than the figures suggest when they are read one at a time.

A short list is not a weak one

A house with eight pieces has had to decide which eight, and that decision shows. The long ranges have to cover everything, which means covering some of it adequately; a short range is usually a specialism, and the specialism is generally obvious the moment somebody points it out.

It also means the short lists are where the pieces come from that nobody at the display has seen before. If half the gardens in a street are lighting the same four well-known barrages, the thing that makes an evening feel like somebody chose it tends to come off one of these twelve lists rather than off the five big ones.

Reading a short list in one go

Each maker has its own page in the catalogue, which is a genuinely different way to shop from working down a category. A category of 112 pieces cannot be read; a list of seven can be read in a minute, and reading all twelve of the short ones is an afternoon rather than a project.

Doing it that way turns up pieces that a category listing buries. Something that sits forty names down a long list because it is neither the biggest nor the cheapest of its kind is the first thing you see on a list of four.

What to ask

The useful question at the counter is not which maker is best, because that is not a question with an answer. It is which of the short lists does the particular thing you have just described — and that one does have an answer, usually a quick one.
