Fireworks For Sale in Rochdale

There is no firework shop in Rochdale, and the nearest of our four counters is a drive rather than an errand. So the useful thing this page can do is explain exactly what happens when fireworks are brought to you instead, because it is not like any other delivery and almost nobody knows that until it is happening.

It is not a parcel

Fireworks travel under carriage rules that most national couriers will not take on, so they do not go through a parcel network at all. A local firm carries them instead, and that single fact explains everything else on this page.

It starts with a phone call. The carrier rings first to agree a time with you, which takes more arranging than a slot picked off a website and is a good deal more certain once it is agreed. Rochdale is an OL postcode and OL is on the delivery list, so this is the route that applies here.

Somebody has to be there, and be eighteen

An order cannot be left. Not with a neighbour, not in a porch, not with anybody who cannot show they are over eighteen — and that is the carrier’s obligation rather than a shop policy, so there is no version of it that gets waived for a regular. A delivery that fails because nobody was in is charged again.

Which means the time on the phone matters more than people expect. Agree an hour somebody will genuinely be at home for, rather than the earliest one offered.

Count the boxes before you sign

This is the part worth reading twice. Count what arrives against the delivery note and write anything wrong on the note there and then, before signing. Once an order is signed for as correct it is much harder for anybody to argue with the carrier about it.

Anything damaged wants reporting the same day or the next. Anything missing, in writing, within five days. And open the boxes when they arrive rather than on the afternoon of the display — from this distance there is no popping back for the thing that was not in there.

Allow longer than you think

Five to seven days from ordering, and more than that in the fortnight before Bonfire Night, when the same local carrier is moving everybody’s order at once. Ordering three weeks out turns all of the above into somebody else’s problem. Ordering three days out makes it yours.
