1. Barrages and cakes - Create a spectacular display

If you want fireworks that bring plenty of action to the night sky, barrages and cakes are well worth exploring.

These fireworks fire a sequence of shots from a single ignition, creating a succession of effects rather than one isolated burst. Depending on the product, you may see colourful stars, glittering effects, crackling finishes and other combinations.

They are popular choices for people who want to build a display around a series of exciting aerial effects.

What should you look for?

When comparing barrages, consider:

• Shot count - This tells you how many shots the firework is designed to fire, but it doesn't tell the whole story about its duration or visual impact.
• Effects - Read the description to understand the colours, patterns and finishes the product offers.
• Duration - Check the stated firing time to help you plan the order of your display.
• Safety distance - Make sure you have enough suitable outdoor space for the product's specified requirements.

If you're planning a display with a memorable finale, you could compare several suitable barrages and choose one that complements the other fireworks in your collection.

2. Rockets - Add height and excitement

Rockets remain a classic choice for fireworks enthusiasts who enjoy watching colourful effects rise into the sky.

They can add variety to a display, particularly when combined with other types of fireworks. Depending on the product, rockets may create different colours, bursts and finishes.

However, rockets require an appropriate launch area and must be used exactly as directed by the manufacturer. They are not suitable for every garden or outdoor setting.

Are rockets right for your celebration?

Before buying, consider the space you have available, the specified safety distance and the type of effects you want to include.

If you have sufficient space and a suitable launch area, browse for rockets in the fireworks collection at The Online Firework Shop to compare the rocket products currently available.

If your garden is too small for the required safety distance, choose a more suitable alternative rather than compromising on safety.

3. Fountains - Enjoy colourful effects closer to the ground

Not every memorable firework needs to launch high into the sky.

Fountains produce effects closer to the ground and can add a different visual element to your display. Depending on the product, these may include showers of sparks, changing colours and sparkling finishes.

They can be a useful way to introduce variety when planning an outdoor celebration, provided the product is suitable for your space.

Why consider a fountain?

Fountains can work well as an opening feature, helping to introduce your display before you move on to other effects.

They may also suit people who enjoy watching the changing colours and patterns produced by ground-based fireworks.

When comparing products, check the specified safety distance, noise information and instructions. Some fountains produce substantial sparks or noise, so never assume that every fountain is suitable for a small garden.

You can browse the fountain range of fireworks to explore the available options and compare product descriptions.

4. Selection boxes - Discover a variety of fireworks in one purchase

If you're not sure where to start, a selection box can be a convenient way to explore different fireworks.

Depending on its contents, a selection box may include a mixture of effects, giving you several products to consider for your celebration.

They can be particularly useful when you're planning a family gathering or want to compare a variety of fireworks without selecting every item individually.

How do you choose the right selection box?

Don't judge a selection box by its size or packaging alone. Instead, look at what is included and whether the contents suit your plans.

Consider:

• The types of fireworks included.
• The variety of colours and effects.
• The individual firing times and safety distances.
• Whether the contents fit your available space and budget.

If you're planning a display for Bonfire Night, a selection box could provide a starting point, with additional suitable fireworks added if your budget and space allow.

5. Display packs and bundle deals - Build your display more easily

Choosing individual fireworks can be enjoyable, but it can also take time to compare products and work out how they will fit together.

Display packs and bundle deals may provide a convenient alternative, depending on the products included.

Some bundles combine different types of fireworks, while others focus on particular effects or styles. They can be worth considering if you want to explore a selection of products together.

Are bundles better value?

That depends on the contents, prices and your individual requirements.

Compare the products included, their individual specifications and the overall price before deciding whether a bundle offers the right value for you.

It's also important to check that every firework in the bundle is suitable for your available space. A larger assortment isn't necessarily the best option if some of its contents aren't appropriate for your setting.

6. Looking for something different? Consider low-noise fireworks

For some celebrations, noise is an important consideration.

Traditional fireworks can be distressing for some people and animals, so you may prefer to explore products designed to produce less noise while still offering attractive visual effects.

Depending on the product, options may include fountains or certain aerial fireworks that emphasise colours, sparkles and other visual effects.

Remember that low-noise fireworks are not silent, and individual products can vary considerably.

How can you find suitable options?

Check the noise-level information and product descriptions before purchasing. Consider your neighbours, nearby animals and the surroundings where you intend to hold your display.

The Online Firework Shop offers product information to help you compare options, making it easier to investigate fireworks that may be more suitable for your plans.

Browse the fireworks collection and check the individual listings for current noise ratings and specifications.

7. How to choose the best fireworks for your budget

With so many types of fireworks available, it's easy to focus on the most impressive looking products. However, the best display is one that suits your budget, space and occasion.

Before placing your order, consider these simple tips.

Decide how much you want to spend

Set a budget before browsing the range. This makes it easier to compare products and avoid adding unnecessary extras to your basket.

Choose a variety of effects

Rather than buying several fireworks that produce similar effects, think about how different products could complement each other.

A suitable fountain, for example, may add variety to a display that otherwise consists mainly of aerial fireworks.

Check the product specifications

Shot count, duration, noise level and safety distance can all help you compare products. Read the full descriptions rather than relying on photographs or product names alone.

Compare current offers

Check the shop for available promotions, selection boxes and bundle deals. Compare the actual contents and prices to decide what best suits your plans.

Plan around your available space

This is essential. Every firework must be used in an appropriate setting with the required safety distances. If you cannot provide the necessary space, choose a different product or consider attending an organised display.

8. Planning your 2026 fireworks display - What to remember

Once you've chosen your fireworks, a little preparation can help your celebration run more smoothly.

Check availability early. Popular products may sell out during busy seasonal periods, so allow time to compare the range and arrange your purchase.

Read the instructions. Familiarise yourself with the requirements for each firework before the day of your event.

Prepare your outdoor area. Make sure the firing area is clear and that spectators can watch from a safe distance.

Consider your neighbours. Give nearby households advance notice and think about pets, livestock and local surroundings.

Follow the law. Check current rules covering fireworks use, permitted times and any local restrictions. For official guidance, visit GOV.UK's fireworks law information.

Store fireworks properly. Keep them in their original packaging, secure and dry, away from sources of heat and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Never return to a firework that has failed to ignite, and never attempt to relight or modify a firework.
